Initial App Setup

Initialization: During app setup, users will first have the option to create a budget model by tapping “Create Budget” at the top of the “Budget” tab. Here, users are prompted to enter the amount and frequency of take-home pay (not pre-tax income) as well as all monthly expenses deducted from this take-home pay. Values are rounded to the nearest dollar automatically. Expenses are pre-categorized for users.

Adding Take-Home Pay and Expenses:

  • Income: To add an income source, simply tap the “+” icon to the right of any of the income sources listed. From user input, income is normalized to a “Monthly Take-Home Pay” value to standardize the budget process.

  • Expenses: To add an expense, simply tap the “+” icon to the right of any of the expense line items listed and enter the respective dollar value.

  • Note: Expense and take-home pay values can be changed during the budget plan creation process by tapping on the number entered; entering a ‘0’ in any category will reset the value to zero, excluding it from the budget plan. To implement changes made to the budget plan, users must press the “Save Budget” button at the bottom of the page. Any changes made to the budget plan may be nullified by exiting out of the modal sheet through either swiping down or pressing the back arrow instead of pressing the “Save Budget” button.

Budget Dashboard: Once income and expenses are finalized, users may visualize their monthly budget model via the “Breakdown” pie chart and associated category line items below on the dashboard. Below the “Breakdown” section is a “Cash Flow” section, which is an aggregated version of these expenses relative to monthly take-home pay. Both data visualization tools illustrate an “Investable Cash Flow” value, defined as the remaining take-home monthly dollar value available for capital allocation purposes after all expenses are taken into account.

"Other" Category: Within the “Breakdown” visualization tool, the “Other” category aggregates any categories that are less than 1% of total take-home pay. Users may visualize the “Other” components at any time by tapping the ellipsis next to the category name.
